Manipulation of Diegetic Time and Space

Manipulation of diegetic time and space is the editing technique that is decided by the Director. The director uses it to create suspension of disbelief.

Combining Shots into sequences

One of the most important actions that the editor edits is to cut selected shots together in a way that the story is told even better

Storytelling

Storytelling is gathering up words, sound and / or images together and conveying it into events. Stories have been for thousands of years to educate and entertain humans.

Creating Motivation

The editor creates motivation by using one shot motivating another shot after. If action starts in one shot, another part of action will be made in another shot, because it creates motivation for the audience.

Development of Drama

Conflict and External Conflict
In a certain scene where there is action shown in it, the editor decides to make the audience show every characters point of view. There could be a time where the two characters (or more) can not find their target in a fight; so it shows their point of view, what they can see. By the editor doing this in a scene, it builds tension and excitement towards the audience. The editor can also edit the shots to close ups on the actors, to also build up tension and making the audience even more excited.

Withholding information
In a scene in a film or video, the editor will decide to edit certain shots to tease and challenge the audience. They can tease the audience by withholding a characters identity at a important moment in the film or in the video.

Creating Pace

The editor can create pace in a scene or scenes by deleting shots that are not important to the scene or the film, the editor can decide to take the shots that are quite long and make it shoot faster, so that shot can end and then it can go to a shot that is important.

Seamless

Seamless is a classic Hollywood continuity. Seamless is when a scene in a video or other is perfectly edited, that it is invisible to the audience. This is because they are to busy noticing on the action in the video, than the editing techniques. To make this happen, you need to make good continuity. Good continuity is when all shots in a scene make sense, with no problems in the whole of mise-en-scene in that scene. The mise-en-scene in shots has to be perfect in the scenes and they must be in good detail, for every shot to create a seamless. This will then give the scene good continuity. Good continuity shouldn't get the audience to be aware of the editing in the shots, only the action; if there is bad continuity between each shot, then the audience will notice and then they will no longer be focused on the action, only the on the bad shots. For example, the
